Virtualisation

Virtual Reality

Virtualisation has rapidly become a core technology for most organisations. Initially focused on Server Consolidation and Containment, Virtualisation has evolved to enable the virtualisation of Desktops, Storage, Networks and Applications.

Growing out of Test & Development departments, Virtualisation has moved into production data centres, providing tangible cost reductions, risk mitigation and the creation of a ‘greener’ platform for growth.

The introduction of a virtual infrastructure can be challenging – Too much too soon, can lead to Virtual Machine or VM sprawl; Too little too late, will probably result in a perceived lack in Return on Investment.

Prolinx deliver virtual solutions in line with a proven methodology to ensure effective and productive virtual infrastructures. Working with industry-leading technologies from organisations including; VMware, Citrix and Microsoft, Prolinx has attained the highest available accreditation levels. In addition, as virtualisation matures and new technologies are brought to the market; either as additional management tools or ‘plug-ins’, or innovative products that virtualise other elements of the data centre such as the Network or Storage, Prolinx support the complete virtual environment

Virtual Impact – Discovery Service

The key to the effective introduction of Virtualisation technologies is to establish the current performance of the existing infrastructure. Virtual Impact is a service that enables customers to review that viability of introducing virtualisation into the data centre. The current infrastructure is assessed over a period of time, and gathers data relating to performance and utilisation.

At the end of the assessment, a report is delivered that details:

  • Achievable consolidation ratio

  • Benefits available from introducing virtualisation technologies

  • Options for virtualisation

Proof of Concept

Typically the results of the Virtual Impact Assessment Service, highlight areas the need to be examined more closely. By delivering a Proof of Concept (PoC), our engineers will magnify any potential areas of concern, whether that be the functionality of the virtual infrastructure, or perhaps the performance of certain applications within a virtual environment.  The PoC is typically on-site, based on a snap-shot copy of the customers infrastructure.

Planning & Design Service

Good planning leads to better outcomes. A Certified Virtualisation Professional will plan and design a customised Virtual Infrastructure implementation to meet your specific needs. At the end of the engagement, you will have a complete roadmap to guide you through the successful implementation of Virtualisation.

Implementation Service

Based on the information delivered in the Planning & Design Service, a Certified Virtualisation Professional will be responsible working as a part of your team, or leading a complete out-source engagement to deliver the virtual environment. Typically delivered as a ‘phased’ introduction, the engineer will be responsible for building the infrastructure, undertaking Physical to Virtual Migrations, setting up the management tool, and complete testing of the environment

Managing a Virtual Infrastructure

On completion of the Implementation Service, Prolinx will provide a complete handover of documentation relating to the virtual infrastructure. Where required, training can be delivered to provide bespoke skills and knowledge on the new environment. Increasingly, many of the new products being introduced regarding virtualisation relate to the management and automation of virtual infrastructures. Prolinx will provide regular updates regarding new products and features that will enhance the capabilities of our customer’s virtual environments.
